June 16, 1981, I was a second year guide joining a crew of veteran ARTA boatmen launching on the Selway at 4 1/2 feet on the water level gauge.

A technique that ARTA guides co-evolved rowing huge rafts on the Grand Canyon in the 1970s. On the Selway, I learned it the hard way. Here demonstrated by Bob Center.
